  • Excellent physical strength properties

Product Description

Master Bond UV15DC80-1Med is a special dual cure epoxy based system which offers a primary cure utilizing UV light, along with a secondary heat curing mechanism. This system allows for curing in areas that might not be exposed to UV light. There are 2 scenarios for using this material. The first way is to cure the adhesive as much as possible with the UV light, and then complete the cure in the shadowed areas with additional heat. The alternative is to use the UV light to fixture the parts so that they don’t move, and then complete the cure by adding the additional heat.

UV15DC80-1Med bonds well to a wide variety of substrates including metals, glass, ceramics and most plastics. It is a superb electrical insulator and has a service temperature range of -80°F to +350°F. It resists liquid sterilants, EtO, radiation sterilization and autoclaving.

Regarding curing, the UV part will cure in thicknesses of a few thousands of an inch in seconds with UV light at 365 nm with 20-40 milliwatts/cm2 of energy. Faster cures can be achieved with higher energy output. Areas not cured because of shadowing, will cure at 80°C in 40-60 minutes. To optimize properties, additional post curing at 80°C for 2-4 hours or 125°C for 30-60 minutes will increase the glass transition temperature, chemical and physical strength properties.

This system provides medical device manufacturers with easy and rapid curing, as well as robust physical and chemical resistance. It should be emphasized that the system can only be used if one of the substrates is optically clear and has no UV blocking agent contained within it.
